1:1 Yoga/Functional Movement Assessment Sessions

Functional movement is about FUNCTION—how the body works and operates to serve our needs, and ultimately contribute to our overall wellness. Our bodies and how we move affect how we show up in our daily routines, from the smallest things like getting in and out of bed or picking up something from the floor, to performing our best at our chosen sport or activity.

The power of 1:1 work

I love working with people on a one-on-one basis because it gives us an opportunity to carefully and mindfully assess movement patterns, capabilities and needs regarding mobility and flexibility, and increase awareness on how our body functions on a macro and micro level. Whether you want to work on a specific part of the body, a yoga pose, or work together to improve performance in the sport/activity that you love to do the most, I love to explore how your body and its limitations and capabilities can function at its best and better serve you.

The benefits of functional training

I have worked with people from all walks and stages of life, from athletes to people who have limited/impaired mobility. I use a multitude of movement forms and exercises (not just yoga poses) to increase strength and mobility, test your capabilities regarding range of motion in your joints and soft tissue, and engage in a collaborative process of inquiry and exploration to find ways to creatively engage with form and function in an individualized way.

the details

We begin with a free 15-30 min consultation over the phone to get to know you, your goals, and to see if we are a good fit for one another. This phone call also gives me an opportunity to research and prepare for our first in-person session.

  • Sessions are 60 minutes.

  • We meet either at Yoga Oasis or at Elements, a private gym equipped with all the strength training materials

  • During private sessions, I do offer hands-on adjustments—ALWAYS with consent and approval—that are non-intrusive and only when I see that it will be poignant and pertinent to whatever we are doing. If you prefer that I don’t use hands-on adjustments, please let me know. I will ask before we start our practice, and also before I do the adjustment itself.

    • After we meet, you will receive via email, an outline of what we did in session, and “homework” or a home practice plan. Homework can range from a short 15-min at-home stretch session at the end of the day to a structured gym routine; whatever you have capacity for and makes sense in your life. Unless we are meeting regularly (multiple times per week, or once per week at the least), I strongly believe that we need to implement a movement routine in order to make change, so some amount of work outside of our time together will be integral.

    • $80 for one 60-min session

    • $290 for 4 sessions

    • $225 for 3 sessions

    • Sliding scale/discount available

If you purchase a package, it includes a check-in/accountability call (or two if you sign up for 4 sessions) in between our meeting times.

I usually see the most improvement, benefit, and/or change when we work together for a length of time. If you wish to do a trial of just one session, I will still honor the price of the 3 or 4-session packages, and deduct the amount of the first one from the total.

  • I started working with Jenn because of an injury. I didn't realize that working with her would not only help me heal, but also improve my tennis game and general lifestyle. She really dived deep into all the movements I make in my life and in tennis, and helped me figure out how to improve it all. Her instructions were clear and the homework was manageable and helped me stay on track. I can't thank her enough for the care and attention she gave me.
